| So should I keep this Xanga, or no?
Yay for looking for wedding locations today! ...and for a trip to Bull Shoals Lake! ...and a new iMac! | | |
| I'm not usually the type to find a news story and post it pseudo-verbatim on Xanga in order to get some political commentary out...but this time its just too much fun... Besides, I've added my own little picture commentary at the end to make it more entertaining!
---------------------------------
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE) agents from 22 offices assisted by representatives of the
electronic industry today executed 32 federal search warrants in 16
states as part of an investigation into the alleged sale and
distribution of illegal modification chips and disc copyright
circumvention devices. This investigation represents the largest
national enforcement action of its kind targeting this type of illegal
activity.
The modification chips and circumvention devices allow users to play
illegally obtained, pirated and/or counterfeit software on video game
consoles including Sony's Playstation 2, Microsoft's XBOX and XBOX 360,
and Nintendo's Wii. Modification chips and swap discs for gaming
consoles violate laws under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (DMCA). According to the Entertainment Software Association
(ESA), the makers of the gaming consoles, game developers, and others
in the industry have incurred billions of dollars in losses worldwide
due to sales lost to those selling counterfeit and pirated video games.
"Illicit devices like the ones targeted today are created with one
purpose in mind, subverting copyright protections," said Julie L.
Myers, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Immigration and
Customs Enforcement. "These crimes cost legitimate businesses billions
of dollars annually and facilitate multiple other layers of
criminality, such as smuggling, software piracy and money laundering." ---------------------------------------
There's more, but it's too lengthy to put here. I often wonder how the large video game companies can put out such large figures of "losses." Basically, they are assuming that for every single illegal download or copy made of a game, they have lost a sale. Sorry, but I really doubt that out of, say, ten people that download a video game, all of them would have bought the same game if downloading were not an option...maybe more like three of them...still...I digress...
Anyhow, no doubt soon we'll see commercials such as these:

....and of course, to justify all those tax dollars going into raids such as the one mentioned in the article....

--In other news, the frisbee companies of the world reported a four dollar loss today when Amanda and I used a plastic plate instead of a frisbee at the park... | | |
| Would anyone like to buy any season (1-9) of Stargate SG1 from me for say....25 dollars? Anybody?

| Hey there. Yeah...been a while, eh? My my...so much has happened.
For starters, I'm working at Countryside Bank on S. Campbell as a teller. Been doing that for a few weeks now...and it's alright, nothing to write home about or anything. One thing I should mention though, if you ever happen to find yourself in the drivethrough window of a bank...or inside, for that matter...remember these words of wisdom: 1- It's not the end of the world if you have to sign the back of your check...it takes all of five seconds, and is for your own protection. 2- When the tellers ask you how you'd like your money back, the appropriate answer is either "Large bills," "Small bills," or "{insert denominations here}." Responses such as, "In cash" or the like are not only not very funny, but have been heard by the teller about fifteen times already that day. 3- If you're cashing a check for, say, 9,300 dollars, don't expect it to take the same amount of time as the person before you who only had to deposit a 30 dollar check.
However, regardless if you recall these things, I'll be sure to smile and wish you a happy day.
I'm really stressing out about this med school application process. If only someone had been talking me through everything I needed to do for the past four years or so. What about my advisor, you may ask? Well, my advisor took one look at my GPA, saw that it was not 4.0, and decided that I was not worthy of applying to medical school. Keeping in mind that, especially at that time, my GPA was a rather high decimal in the 3 to 4 range, I felt this was slightly unfair.
So now I find myself with a Kaplan book telling me all kinds of wonderfull ways to get ready for med school. Ways that are now impossible to complete without waiting at least a year before my applications go out. Still, I blame myself for not seeking out such advise more readily. After all, they had books (and the internet) back then...
My MCAT scores will be in this coming Wednesday, and I could not be more anxious. Well....I guess I could...but...still....I'm pretty anxious. I suppose that if the score is not one I approve of, I can take the test again, no problem. But still...I would much rather have it over with, not to mention that taking the test only once will look better to a certain admissions committee of whom I need to impress.
As far as my personal life goes, I've been reading a lot lately, mostly due to boring nights at the bank...and I've almost finished Christopher Moore's sixth book, 'Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. I do enjoy Moore's books very much. (Though 'Island of the Sequined Love Nun' was a miss, in my humble opinion...)
Also, I've been with Amanda now for very close to five months, and I couldn't be happier! It still feels new to me, and I hope it always does. I constantly wonder what keeps her around...I know it sure isn't this self-deprecating attitude... Seriously, though, if you've spoken with me, you know I'm very happy, and I prefer to leave it at that for right now.
Well, there you go. Another long awaited post concerning Clifton's paradox of emotions. Is he happy, stressed, anxious, or in love? Only time will tell...

| Here's an update! I'm doing well....very well.... Though I thoroughly hate organic chemistry. Um...nothing to say really. I hope everyone is doing well!
She likes me! She really likes me! Hehehe....
